COLUMBIA, Missouri— Four track and field athletes from the University of Missouri are scheduled to compete in the North American, Central American and Caribbean Championships in Freeport, Grand Bahama, Bahamas, Friday through Sunday.
Ariana Fisher, Claudia Diaz, Roberto Vilches and Sophie Rivera will represent the Tigers in the competition.
For Fisher, the championships will mark her first competition since breaking her own school record in the triple jump at the US National Championships with a mark of 13.63m/44-8.75.
Diaz enters offseason competition after finishing ninth in the high jump (1.68m/5-6) at the SEC Outdoor Championships. The native of Marida, Yucatan, Mexico won first place in the event (1.76m/5-9.25) at the Crimson Tide Invitational and second (1.77m/5-9.75) at Texas Relays.
Rivera, a native of Brentwood, Mo., will enter the javelin and discus realm. She placed ninth nationally (53.87m/176-9) in the javelin at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in June.
The next senior also took third in discus at the 2019 SEC Outdoor Championships (52.56m/172-5).
Roberto will represent the Missouri men’s squad in the high jump after an eighth-place finish (2.15m/7-0.5) at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The native of Mexico City, Mexico finished atop the conference at the SEC Indoor Championships in February.
