Suncheon: Indian commuters Ace PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth entered the semi-finals of the Korea Open Super 500 badminton tournament here on Friday.
World number 7 Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, beat Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan 21-10, 21-16.
Sidhu defeated Ongbamrungphan in the Swiss Open final last month.
World Championship silver medalist Kidambi Srikanth advanced to the semi-finals with a three-game win over local prospect Son Wan Ho in the men’s singles competition.
In a battle between two former world No. 1s, it was Srikanth who relied on his power and precision to outsmart Son Wan Ho 21-12, 18-21, 21-12 in the quarter-final clash that lasted a little over an hour.
Srikanth was 4-7 against the Korean, having lost to him the last three times.
However, the Indian played better that day to find strengths against an opponent, who is returning to international badminton after a two-year hiatus.
The fifth-seeded Indian will next face the winner of the match between eighth-seeded Thailand Kunlavut Vitidsarn and third-seeded Jonatan Christie from Indonesia.
