FULLERTON (CBSLA.com) – Sports Central presented the story of a very young and courageous athlete battling a fatal disease in 2010.
Sadly, after a long battle with bone cancer, it was announced that Cal State Fullerton pitcher Nick Hurtado died Friday night at the age of 21.

Hurtado was an outstanding pitcher at Santiago de Corona High School and accepted a scholarship in 2009 to pitch for the Titans.
The following year, she was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer called osteosarcoma, a cancerous bone tumor that usually develops in adolescents.
“When they offered me the scholarship, I was like, ‘Oh my God, yeah. I would love to be a Titan! “Hurtado said in 2010.” It was one of the best times of my life.

Hurtado inspired many when he finally joined the Fullerton baseball team for the 2012 season.
Ahead of Fullerton’s baseball game against UC Davis, the teams held a minute of silence and a video tribute was broadcast in honor of the former Titans pitcher.
This is the second loss for the Cal State Fullerton family in recent weeks.
