Deshorn Brown’s powerful hat-trick kept Mumbai City FC winless after two games as NorthEast United FC drew 3-3 against the defending champions in a high octane clash in Super Indian League, here Monday.

Brown scored in the 29th, 56th and 80th minutes as Igor Angulo (33rd, 52nd) and Bipin Singh (40th) scored on either side of his hat-trick in a game that fluctuated from start to finish.

The result means Mumbai tops the table with 16 points in eight games, but drew after their 0-3 loss to the Kerala Blasters. NorthEast United remains ninth with eight points in nine games.

Mumbai led the first exchanges with Cassio Gabriel and Jahouh pulling the strings in the middle of the park. Mohammad Nawaz didn’t have to warm up his gloves until the first quarter of half-time when the keeper knocked over a delicate header from Mathias Coureur.

Against the course of the game, NorthEast United drew the first blood. Brown marked his return to the side with a goal as the Jamaican striker made the most of a brilliant diagonal ball from the impressive Imran Khan to knock him down and sneak past the Nawaz in charge.

Stung by the backhand just before the half hour mark, Mumbai increased the stake and were quickly rewarded. Bipin pierced the left flank and framed it for Angulo who slammed home from close range.

Seven minutes later and five minutes before halftime, Angulo became supplier as the experienced Spaniard set up an overlapping Bipin, the latter making a low first finish from a tight angle.

Mirshad was left high and dry as he let one pass his near post, failing to get down in time.

At the break, Mumbai led 2-1, with NorthEast United following suit. It was action early in the second half as Hernan Santana forced Nawaz to make a superb save three minutes after half-time.

Mumbai added to their tally soon after as Angulo scored his second goal after Ygor Catatau unlocked a failing NorthEast United defense to find Angulo who came in from close range.

Mumbai’s joy was short-lived as the excellent Brown put his name on the scoresheet again, moving away from his marker and using the power to smash the ball through the keeper and into the back of the net .

Mumbai looked for the cushion to find some respite as Bipin’s command was well saved by Mirshad but to their agony Brown completed his hat-trick by guiding Imran’s shot into an empty net as Rahul Bheke failed to remove the danger and Nawaz was guilty of getting out of line sooner than he should have.
