It was a milestone weekend for the George Mason High School track and field team, with the women’s 4x400m relay team taking first place in the race at the Class 2 State meet which s ‘is held at East Rockingham Secondary School. The crew, which includes Paula Cox, Lauren Baartz, Jo Sevier and Charlotte Crum, clocked their best time of the year in 4:12:07 and won by a nose over regional and state rival Maggie Walker Governor School with a margin of 0.89 seconds.
THE GIRLS SHORT RELAY TEAM wasn’t the only one to be recognized as All State competitors, with Sarah Lambert finishing second in the high jump, girls 4x800m Victoria Lecce, Lauren Mellon, Ellen Chadwick and Sevier finishing third as well as Crum. third in the 400m. Other notables included sixth place Colson Board in the 1600m, seventh place in the girls’ 4x100m relay team of Isabel Caton, Paula Cox, Beni Palmer-Lasky and Olivia Games as well as the 4x800m relay team. for boys by Victor Gedeck, Erik Donnelly, Jack Lindy and Conseil.
