W&L Women’s Athletics Wins Five Events at Joe LaRocco Invite

SALEM, Va. — The Washington and Lee women’s track and field team won five events and set four Top 5 scores in the program at the Joe LaRocco Invitational hosted by Roanoke on Saturday.

Meeting Highlights

  • First year Madeleine Venable (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) recorded three Top 5 finishes. She finished second in the long jump at 5.20m (17’0.75″), which marked the third best jump in the history of the team. She finished second in the triple jump at 10.68m (35’0.50″), registering the fourth best jump. brand in program history, and Venable finished second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.53. In the preliminaries for the event, she clocked a time of 9.49, which is the fifth best time in team history.
  • Second year Katelyn Gamble (Houston, TX/The Kinkaid School) took first place in the 200m in 26.14. This is the third fastest time in program history.
  • Junior Parker Falcon (Dallas, TX/The Hockaday School) finished first in the mile at 5:21.91, senior Sarah Hollen (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra Area) won the 800m with a time of 2:28.35 and Junior Caroline Todd (Cumberland Foreside, Maine/Greely) placed first in the 3,000m in 10:53.60.
  • The Generals 4x400m relay made up of seniors Murfee Jones (Lookout Mountain, Ga./Girls’ Preparatory School), junior Sarah Taigle (Gloucester, Va./Hampton Roads Academy), sophomore Jordynn Palethrope (Barrington, RI/Barrington) and senior Eleni Filley (Deer Park, Ill/Barrington) crossed the finish line first in 4:15.70.
